Thread lifting is a minimally invasive method for repositioning of sagging facial and/or body tissue. This is done by the placement of dissolvable surgical suture material underneath the skin. The immediate effect is the lifting of sagging tissue. The delayed effect is the production of collagen.

What types of suture threads
are there?
There are many different types, with the most important distinction being the absence or presence of barbs on the suture.
Threads without barbs are referred to as smooth threads. These threads do not provide immediate repositioning of sagging tissue. The purpose of placement of smooth threads is the generation of collagen. This type of thread is excellent for fine lines and wrinkles and may also be used as a preventative measure.
Threads with barbs are referred to as barbed threads. This means that the thread poses tiny hooks. When placed underneath the skin, these barbs provide a means of immediate lifting and repositioning of sagging tissue. The added benefit is that overtime, the barbed threads stimulate the production of collagen.

The process starts with a thorough consultation, afterwhich clinical photographs will be performed.
Markings will be placed on the skin. These aid in vector design and choosing the correct and safe entry points for the threads. The entry points in addition to the tract is then anesthetised with a local anesthetic solution.
The placement of the suture has been compared to the feeling of a worm underneath the skin and should not be painful.
After the placement of the suture, the suture is cut, antibiotic ointment is placed at the entry site and symmetry is assessed. You may continue with your day.
